Arriving in Plymouth at 05:55 BST and a little over ten hours outside of the current multihull line honours, the MOD70 Concise 10 became the first yacht to complete the 2017 Rolex Fastnet Race. Having led the record-breaking fleet throughout the entire race, her quest to arrive first over the finish line was never in jeopardy.
“It was one of the easier Rolex Fastnets I’ve done,” revealed British skipper Ned Collier Wakefield on arrival in Plymouth. “The record wasn’t on with the forecast, it was upwind all the way to Land’s End. We had a nice rounding of the Fastnet Rock and gybed straight afterwards heading back along the Irish coast to find a bit more pressure and then had a great night bombing along at 35 knots in pretty flat water.”

BoatBid Auction - 14th to the 18th July - Bidding has begun!
The next auction runs from Friday 14th July 2017 until Tuesday 18th July 2017.
As its name implies it is NOT a race as such but an opportunity to pitch up your vessel amongst others and see how you fair. Participating vessels range in length, design and capability which determines your start time smallest first, with the aim of finishing at about the same time.
The Single-handed Trans-Atlantic Race, or OSTAR, is an east-to-west yacht race across the North Atlantic, inaugurated in 1960, it was the first single-handed ocean yacht race. It is run from Plymouth to the Newport in the USA and is held every four years. The Boatshed Performance team sailed into Plymouth today to get a report at the low key start. The race is westwards against the prevailing winds of the north Atlantic over a distance of around 3,000 nautical miles.
The Boatshed ketch gets quite a bit of use and this season is no exception, visiting Boatshed locations, attending Boatshed events and generally serving as Neil and Mandy Chapman's personal floating island. Sometimes the stress of pre-season lift out. wash off and antifouling can make this nautical lifestyle a little less enjoyable. Sealift helps remove some of these hassles. Mandy and Neil have always been big fans of the Sealift facilities. "We have been using these machines for many years and have always found the experience much less stressful than cranes, hoists or drying against a wall" says Neil. "Drive the boat in and let buoyancy do the work, you can sit back with a coffee and enjoy the view. It's a bit like going to the carwash!" is how Mandy Chapman describes it.

When abandoning their boat - something which is your last resort! - many people go to deploy their life rafts, only to find that they pull and pull and pull at their painter (the operating chord) and their life raft doesn't inflate.
